Route Resolver Rules form
The Route Resolver Rules form enables you to configure N4 to search for missing information for an export container arriving at the ingate based on the information available in the gate form. If you do not use bookings and you receive export containers from truckers that do not always know the departing vessel visit or the container's port of discharge, N4 can search for this based on following information for a Receive Export (RE) gate transaction:
Vessel visit: Container's line operator and port of discharge or second port of discharge
Port of discharge: Container's line operator, vessel visit, and second port of discharge
To search for the vessel visit or port of discharge, the clerk must specify the information above, such as the line operator, vessel visit, and second port of discharge, in the Receive Export (RE) gate form.
If you use bookings to receive export containers at the gate, you do not need to use this form since the booking specifies the vessel visit and port of discharge.
To configure N4 to search for a vessel visit or port of discharge, you need to:
Define a mapping rule for a facility.
For Receive Export (RE) gate transactions, include the ResolveExportRoute (on page 1) business task in your gate configuration.
For more information, see Business Tasks form (on page 1).
To define a mapping rule, you must first determine the types of containers the mapping rule applies to. You do this by adding filter criteria based on one or more of the following attributes:
Freight Kind: Container status such as full (FCL), empty, or less-than container load (LCL)
Hazardous?: True if the container is hazardous
Is OOG: True if the container is over dimension
Line Operator: Line operator of the container
On Power: True if the container requires power
Outbound Service: Carrier service for the vessel visit specified for the container
Second Port of Discharge: Second port of discharge specified for the container
Next you need to determine which of the following actions N4 will perform for the containers that satisfy each filter criterion you define:
Fail: To fail with an exception.
Search All Visits: To search for a Created, Inbound, Arrived, or Working vessel visit with the following:
A line operator that matches the container's line operator specified in the gate form and,
An itinerary that contains a routing point that matches the container's port of discharge or second port of discharge specified in the gate form.
If N4 finds more than one vessel visit, N4 selects the vessel visit with the earliest estimated time of departure (ETD) where the cutoff date has not past for the container.
Search Visits for a Service: To search for a vessel visit per the Search All Visits action, but only for the vessel service specified for this action.
Route to Selected POD: To execute the Find POD from Service action, but use the port of discharge specified for this action instead of the earliest port of discharge in the vessel service itinerary. Use this action if:
The specified vessel service contains more than one port of discharge for the same sub-point and,
The correct port of discharge for the sub-point varies by line operator.
The filter criterion selected for this action must contain the Line Operator, Outbound Service, and Second Port of Discharge filter attributes.
Find POD from Service: To search for the port of discharge in the itinerary of the vessel visit specified in the gate form that contains a sub-point equal to the second port of discharge specified in the gate form.
If N4 finds more than one port of discharge, N4 uses the earliest port of discharge in the vessel visit itinerary.
For example, if you receive hazardous export containers from line operator ABC and the trucker doesn't know the vessel visit, you can create a mapping rule for hazardous ABC containers with the Search All Visits action. When a clerk processes a gate transaction for a hazardous ABC export container without a vessel visit, N4 will search for ABC vessel visits that contain the container's port of discharge or second port of discharge in the itinerary. If N4 finds a matching vessel visit, N4 assigns the vessel visit and port of discharge to the export container.
For more examples, see Route Resolver Rules Filter Criteria examples (on page 1).
To define filter criteria:
In the Mapping Rules area, from the first drop-down list on the left, select a filter attribute, such as Freight Kind.
From the second drop-down list, select an operator. For example, to apply the mapping rule to all containers with a freight kind of full (FCL), use the is (=) operator. For more information on operators, see Using operators.
From the third drop-down list select a value. For example, select FCL from the drop-down list to apply the mapping rule to full containers.
Click Add Criterion.
The filter criterion appears as an If statement in the filter pane.
You can use the above steps to add additional criteria to a mapping rule.
You can also add the following types of filter criteria to a mapping rule:
For each filter criterion you define, you must set the value (on page 1) to specify the action N4 will take for the containers identified by the selected criterion, such as searching for a vessel visit.
Click Save.
